Os preços do petróleo, do gás natural, dos alimentos e dos metais subiram acentuadamente neste ano, em meio ao aumento dos choques globais, informou o Banco Mundial em seu relatório mais recente sobre as perspectivas dos mercados de commodities. Segundo a instituição, o cenário pode piorar caso o conflito no Oriente Médio se intensifique e os danos à infraestrutura petrolífera russa persistam.

Os preços das commodities devem recuar 7% no próximo ano, afirmou o banco. No entanto, a continuidade dos choques, incluindo as previsões de que o El Niño provoque seus efeitos climáticos mais severos desde 1950, pode manter elevados os preços das commodities agrícolas, aumentando o risco de inflação mais alta e de uma política monetária mais restritiva.

A economia global está atualmente mais vulnerável a futuros choques de oferta. Os estoques mundiais de petróleo foram reduzidos durante a guerra no Oriente Médio, e a oferta global da commodity deve cair 5,2% em 2026, a maior queda em quatro décadas, excluindo o período da recessão global de 2020, informou o banco.

“Os mercados de commodities estão sendo atingidos por vários grandes choques ao mesmo tempo”, afirmou Ayhan Kose, economista-chefe adjunto do Banco Mundial. “Os custos mais altos da energia e as interrupções no comércio estão elevando os preços de uma ampla variedade de commodities, ameaçando agravar a inflação, a insegurança alimentar e comprometer o crescimento econômico.”

O banco divulgou nesta quarta-feira seu relatório semestral, dois dias antes de ministros das Relações Exteriores das 20 maiores economias do mundo se reunirem em Atlanta, no Estado americano da Geórgia. O encontro terá como foco as guerras no Oriente Médio e na Ucrânia.

Kose afirmou que o Banco Mundial está concentrado em proteger as populações mais pobres do mundo e apoiar países de baixa renda que já enfrentam pesados encargos com suas dívidas.

O banco já havia concedido US$ 8,7 bilhões em empréstimos a juros baixos e outras formas de assistência a 25 países afetados negativamente pela guerra no Oriente Médio, segundo o relatório. Desse total, dez países adaptaram programas existentes para cobrir despesas relacionadas à crise, enquanto 19 recorreram a novos recursos, com alguns países utilizando as duas modalidades.

O relatório, divulgado duas vezes por ano, aponta que os preços globais da energia dispararam 32% em 2026, atingindo o nível mais alto desde a invasão da Ucrânia pela Rússia, em 2022.

Com a queda da produção de petróleo, os preços do Brent devem permanecer elevados no curto prazo, com média de US$ 92 por barril em 2026. Os preços seriam ainda mais altos se a demanda por petróleo não tivesse previsão de recuo de 2,5% neste ano, a terceira maior queda já registrada, atrás apenas dos efeitos da pandemia de covid-19 em 2020 e da crise do petróleo de 1980.

Os preços das commodities agrícolas devem subir pouco mais de 10% em 2026, devido às interrupções no transporte de grãos provocadas pelas hostilidades entre Rússia e Ucrânia no Mar Negro. Em 2027, a alta deve superar 7%, levando a um aumento acumulado de quase 18% no período.

Um cenário adverso que combine um El Niño recorde, novas interrupções no transporte de grãos pelo Mar Negro, a intensificação do conflito no Oriente Médio e a continuidade dos danos à infraestrutura petrolífera russa pode elevar os preços dos alimentos em 12% além do previsto, informou o banco.

Esse cenário poderia desencadear uma crise alimentar semelhante à registrada no início da década de 2010, quando mais de 40 milhões de pessoas adicionais foram empurradas para a extrema pobreza, observou a instituição.

Os preços dos fertilizantes devem subir 14% em 2026, impulsionados por uma disparada nos preços da ureia, e retornar aos níveis de 2025 em 2027.

Os preços dos metais devem subir 25% e atingir um novo recorde em 2026. Alumínio, cobre e estanho devem alcançar máximas históricas em razão das interrupções na oferta e da forte demanda associada aos investimentos em energia renovável, veículos elétricos e centros de processamento de dados, informou o banco.

Os preços dos metais preciosos devem disparar 40% em 2026, em meio à elevada demanda por ativos considerados seguros, impulsionada pelas incertezas geopolíticas e de políticas econômicas. Uma moderação dos preços é esperada em 2027.
