O aumento dos preços dos produtos relacionados à energia estava começando a afetar a inflação ao consumidor, com a aceleração do crescimento dos preços prevista para o início do próximo ano, disse Ueda.

“Estamos em um equilíbrio, com os salários crescendo a um nível compatível com a inflação de 2%”, afirmou Ueda em um seminário organizado pelo Fundo Monetário Internacional (FMI).

No entanto, a meta de inflação de 2% do BoJ ainda não se tornou uma norma social no país, disse Ueda, acrescentando que o objetivo do banco central agora é manter a inflação subjacente em torno dessa meta.

Ele também disse que o banco central japonês está observando as ações de outros bancos centrais “com muito, muito cuidado”, já que elas afetam os preços dos ativos, incluindo as taxas de câmbio e as taxas de juros.

“O que eles fazem revela informações importantes sobre o que pensam de suas economias, o que terá impacto sobre a nossa economia. Por isso, observamos seu comportamento e suas ações com muito cuidado”, disse ele sobre as medidas de política monetária de outros bancos centrais.

Sobre as ferramentas não convencionais de política monetária, Ueda disse que elas tiveram alguns efeitos positivos quando o Banco do Japão as empregou, mas acrescentou que não têm sido substitutos perfeitos para a redução das taxas de juros a partir de território positivo.
